The Challenge
Don Chilio, a family-owned Mexican brand with deep roots and a passionate love for chilis, approached Frooishen with a brand strategy challenge to establish a competitive market position and authentically connect with the American consumer. With a rich history and a bold vision for the future, Don Chilio needed a spicy strategy that could bring to life their essence and position them to compete like a boss.
We embarked on a four-phase process to uncover the core of the Don Chilio brand and craft differentiated messaging that resonated with their heritage, personality and bold approach to flavor innovation.
Bringing the Brand to Life
We leveraged the personalities of Mauricio and Diego—the brothers behind Don Chilio — infusing their vibrant and playful essence into the brand. Their energetic spirit and love for culinary exploration became the foundation for the brand’s voice, identity and package design. We used humor, a dash of adventure and a pinch of irreverence to craft quirky, catchy copy, as well as a bold, contemporary design system with mouth-watering photography. This approach reset the brand tone as lively, spicy, modern, delicious and innovative, positioning Don Chilio as trendsetting Masters of Spice, Connoisseurs of Chili, Gurus of Heat.
Born in Mexico. Drizzled Worldwide. At the heart of Don Chilio’s story is a commitment to innovation—constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible with chilis. We embraced this by developing a platform that encouraged inclusivity and experimentation. Inspired by the brother’s grandfather, a “just try it” attitude invites consumers to explore chili’s versatility across a variety of cuisines. While rooted in Mexican tradition, Don Chilio is not confined by it. Instead, the brand celebrates the fusion of cultures, the fun of blending flavors, and the joy of culinary adventure.
